The epic thrills and spills of one of the most bizarre Bathurst 1000s ever has really captured the imagination of the viewing public and the number 222 Walkinshaw Racing Commodore, complete with distinctive purple Startline branding, was right in the thick of it. An onsite crowd in excess of 195,000, along with 3.75 million Australian TV viewers watched as young gun, Nick Percat and his British co-driver, Oliver Gavin, claimed a dramatic last lap podium finish behind the winning Ford of Chaz Mostert / Paul Morris and the Nissan of James Moffat / Taz Douglas.

Running for just under eight hours, it became the longest Bathurst 1000 race in history after an unprecedented red flag stoppage for track surface repairs on lap 61 saw the entire field stopped on pit straight for nearly an hour. After qualifying 12th on Friday and avoiding major dramas throughout the race, the whole Walkinshaw Racing team were ecstatic to see Percat and Gavin claim a well-deserved 3rd place. Percat, who also carries the Startline logo on his race suit, says it was a true team effort.
